Ring-style door knocker with backplate

Central Europe, 16th century

Malleable iron. Hammered plate with openwork styled into grape leaves with a shield boss. Flame-shaped piecing on the knocker adorned with a band of foliage. Wire centre knob with snake head terminal. The knocker passes through an eye on the square peg. Decorated with grooving.
